AEW Dynamite 9-29-21 - Rochester Brodie Lee Tribute Show

Rochester is Brodie Lee's hometown and the show is not only dedicated to his memory, but the Jon Huber legacy foundation has been founded in his honor. Punk's out for commentary and Cole vs. Jungle Boy starts off with Cole getting a badly-placed or perfectly-placed chyron. Cole was rookie of the year in 2010 according to JR via PWI and Cole runs the knee of Jack ragged. Punk says that someone can be a jerk and even be a great wrestler - maybe even the best in the world.

Rebound lariat by Jungle Boy! MASSIVE kick exchange by Cole and Jack before Jack lands a brainbuster. Punk talks about taking out a Lloyd's of London policy on himself tonight - and the announce table. Jungle Boy goes for a pumphandle pickup but gets cradled before a backstabber by Cole! Poison rana by Jack and a sliding D to the neck hits for 2.9! Jack avoids a panama sunrise to the floor before landing a step-up rana to the floor! Panama sunrise hits for 2.9!  Cole goes for the Boom, but Jack avoids it and gets the Snaretrap! Jack gets a sleeper grip, but pulls him back - leading to Cole landing upkicks. Mule kick to the balls and THE BOOM ends it! This ruled!

The Elite comes out and someone decided to let Karl speak. Nak gets the mic and Omega says taht Danielson didn't beat him - but his Myspace is blowing up, but since Danielson has no wins here, he's at the back of the line. Danielson comes out and asks if the people want a rematch to a big yes chant. Danielson calls him Kenny "no balls" and that gets a big chant. Danielson wants to face anyone in the Elite on Rampage and Omega says why not tonight. Bryan says okay and he brings out all of his buddies!

Lucha Bros are backstage with Alex before Andrade is here with his new guy and asks where Pac is. Andrade wants a AAA Tag Title shot and...that's it. Okay then. Punk asks if Andrade has any friends that he doesn't pay. In-canon, that's a valid question. Dante Martin and Sydal are out to face Cody, Cody's intro, and Shotty Lee. Punk talks about Cody's intro being completely insane and overly expensive. Arn wants Shotty to start and Cody jumps in.

Fans chant "Cody sucks" and Arn's pissed. Cody's run-up dive off the top to the floor gets evaded, but eats the meteora from Sydal off the apron. Dante gets some crazy hops on stuff and Punk compares him to Sayama. Disaster kick to Sydal on the apron by Cody. DIN'S FIRE GETS 2. Yes, Cody's vertebreaker has a name. Dante gets 2 off a mile high missile dropkick. Lee pulls Cody in and forces a tag before getting a basement superkick for 2. Patela fisherman buster gets the win for Shotty Lee on Dante! Tony interviews them after the match and Cody gets a chorus of boos. Cody says that the fans waited a long time for this show - so let's get Malakai here now!

Arn tells Cody to stop talking. On July 7, he came out and destroyed Arn, Cody, and  got him wanting to quit. You get a rematch and roll out and he lost - TO HELL WITH CHECKING ON ME, YOU SHOULD WIN THE FIGHT. Ask Lee and Brock what it's like to get taken out by Malakai - and he would take the fight, but he's too old. Arn says that if Cody had someone try to steal his car, he'd give it up - but if Arn had that happen, he'd put a glock to his head and spill his brains out. Arn takes Lee with him to leave Cody high and dry. Wow. Character work! This is nice - Arn should logically be pissed at Cody for disregarding his requests and it all just fits.

Mox, Kingston, and Darby are out with Sting to face Bear Country and Anthony Greene. We get a Kingston German! Mox wants to do one on Boulder, but can't get him up before a Greene superkick to Mox. Retrosexual blind dive bounces off King and Mox. Violent Crown ends it - this was fun. Sting deathdrops Greene and we get a Ruby-Britt video. Ruby says she had 20,000 people in her corner - but Britt says they just liked her song.

HFO is out and Hardy says that he was going to debut in Rochester, but thankfully that didn't happen because Rochester doesn't deserve BIG MONEY MATT HARDY! SIXTEEN MAN TAG!? Jesus. Dark Order's out with -1 alongside a giant BRODIE chant. Spear powerplex gets 2 on 10. Alex gets a pop-up knee before OC tags in.

Colt, Uno and Grayson go to leave before -1 and AMANDA HUBER TELL THEM TO GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER! Grayson corkscrew dive and a powerbomb/moonsault hits! A billion moves hit and THE FATALITY ENDS IT. This was so much fun. Thankfully, the Dark Order looks to be back together. They shake hands and hug! -1 is held up high and we get a Lio Rush video! Lio says it's time for an LBO and he's the captain and runs the ship.

Dan Lambert puts over Jericho as making AEW the biggest thing in wrestling - but now, it's time for AEW to have a happier ending than a fan in mom's basement. He says the fans will never again swing on the Balls of Jericho. Okay now that's a great line. Sky says he was one of the first champions here and he grabbed the GIANT SONIC RING and became the face of the revolution and it wasn't good enough. Page talks about not being overlooked anymore and he's got the tightest tits in the game.

Shida says that in the two years Dynamite has been around, she's looking for her 50th win against Serena Deeb. TAY JAY-FIGHT! Love the wacky SF II theme. Punk says that Bunny and Ford are the better-looking members of the HFO and Ex says that Butcher's a looker too. Double-teams by the heels and a kneedrop by Ford on the apron gets a PIP.  Bunny gets a sliding D in the corner. Tay runs wild with a crossbody and then tags Anna in for a double suplex. Matrix by Ford into a stunner! Anna chokes Ford out with the queenslayer. -1 comes in to hug them!

Jade vs. Nyla vs. Rosa is made for Rampage. MJF says the company is on the cusp of greatness and there are some young men that will keep pushing it forward. There are FOUR PILLARS of AEW - Jungle Boy...beat him. Sammy...BEAT HIM! Darby and oh yeah, you got the strongest pillar - THE FIRST MAN AT ALL IN AND THE FIRST MAN IN AN AEW MATCH - MJF. MJF says that TK is in his top-two Khans and he has other friends too if TK doesn't give him what he wants, he has friends from MLW including BRUCE PRICHARD. Darby's out and MJF says that Darby's a great number 2 guy and there are a lot of those. Scottie Pippen, Sting, and he's Gretsky. Darby says they wouldn't care if he left.

Darby asks how MJF can be a pillar if of the two, only he won a title. MJF asks why Darby is straight edge and he only is because his alcoholic uncle got into an accident and his uncle died. And the real travesty is that THE WRONG MAN DIED! Darby won't let him break him mentally and he wants him to keep talking. MJF says that if they can't break him mentally, they'll leave. Punk points out that it's just bully mentality. Danielson vs. Nick Jackson is made for Rampage too! Elite faces Cage, Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy, and Danielson. Casino adder match returns on Dynamite too! Miro says that Fuego keeps betting things - maybe he has a gambling problem, but it's not his problem.

Miro chucks him around. Tony brings up Sammy wrestling with a chain and Miro rakes it across his face. Sammy gets caught off a dive and belly to belly suplexed across the ring! Sammy gets a big shotgun dropkick! Miro misses a corner charge and goes ass over tea kettle! GIANT FLIP DIVE BY SAMMY! Big catch by Miro off a crossboy gets a uranage! Big corner knee by Sammy! THREE TIMES! Sammy goes up an Miro slugs him! ECLIPSE BY SAMMY! GTH attempt, but Miro avoids it and kicks his head off for 2.9! Miro takes a buckle pad off and Fuego prevents a second one before Ex brings up Miro winning with that at All Out. Tornado DDT by Sammy! GTH HITS! 630 HITS AND SAMMY WINS IT! And his post-match promo is saved for the first break on the Rhodes reality show. Nope. Super-fun match and a great night of action. Fantastic show - but they need to let moments breathe - especially for newer acts. They told the story that needed to be told - but at 1.5X speed, it doesn't sink in as well.

WWE Extreme Rules 2021

I wasn't planning on watching live, but I've got an early shift in the morning - so it's better to get this over with than watch it later. Big E title win recap leads to him being speared on Raw before a backstage brawl between E and AJ/Omos and AJ vs. Big E would be a nice match on PPV. Instead, we'll probably get New Day vs. AJ, Omos, and Lashley. Sheamus vs. Priest vs. Hardy should be good. Six-man is added and we get a recap of Reigns beating Montel. "You not only lose - but you lose after the match." - WWE putting babyfaces over strong on the pre-show. Dawkins says the Bloodline Bitches will pay and then says they want the smoke. The idea of "serious Street Profits" was better than the execution, but reps like this are how you get better. Goofy Charlotte/Alexa video.

Carmella vs. Liv Morgan is up and both the English and Spanish commentary is on, with the Spanish commentary louder than both the commentary and Carmella on the mic. This goes on for several minutes and Liv hits the apron and eats a superkick on the floor while both Pat and Cole talk about how relatable she is. OH MY GOD THE SPANISH COMMENTARY IS BACK.
This show! So glad I watched live. TWO long chinlocks by Carmella back to back. Edge o Matic gets 2 for Carmella. Step-up enzuiguri and step-up curb stomp gets 2 for Liv and a "let's go Liv" chant. Superkick gets 2 for Carmella. Double knees to the face gets 2 for Liv. I question the logic of just randomly jumping around on your back during a cover like Liv. Liv foot backstabs her into the announce table and then bouncy rope flatliners her for the win. Liv's big move offense is dreadful, but at least the right person won.

Hilarious backstage bit with Heyman. "Who hired her!? THAT IS THE DUMBEST QUESTION I HAVE EVER BEEN ASKED IN MY ENTIRE CAREER!" - Heyman getting paid to bury WWE's tropes is amusing. Rosenberg picks Roman to win it. "I feel like I'm repeating myself every month." - Rosenberg. Six man tag starts off with more bilingual commentary. God, it's like WWE is actively pushing for folks to pirate their shows later.

They put over Lashley basically as the babyface having beaten Orton before E cashed in and beat him. Lashley bowls over E with a lariat. MASSIVE biel by Lashley to Kofi leads to, of course, AN AJ CHINLOCK. Elevated flatliner from Lashley to Kofi gets 2. MASSIVE ST-Joe by E out of the corner to AJ. Kofi and E hit the powerbomb/cave in FOR TWO. Kofi dives onto Omos with...something on the floor. Lashley spears AJ and eats a Big Ending to lose. Well this got everyone under.

The Peacock ads just feel thrown in regardless of what the on-screen content timing is. So weird. Profits vs. Usos is up and we get Michael Cole WWE Facts about the teams to really hype this up. We get an Uso REVERSE BEARHUG instead of a chinlock. Dawkins gets a nice superplex and rolls into an elevated twisted brainbuster for 2. Doonsday device blockbuster gets 2 as well. MASSIVE Flip dive by Montez over the post! BIG FROG SPLASH HITS, but he can't cover! Montez feels like he needs to get in the IC Title mix on SD - he seems to be on the cusp of really getting over. Double Uso dive onto Montez ends it. This was fun.

Lashley...logically calls Big E a chickenshit for cashing in his case. He wants a rematch on Raw tomorrow night. Sure whatever. Recap of this awful Alexa/Charlotte rivalry can't even save it. Alexa's intro gets cut out mid-sentence for a Peacock ad. I had a feeling with the Street Profits coming out of nowhere. Alexa's out in her PPV booty shorts.

We get some broad, but amusing poses from Bliss after the bell and then in the ropes. Charlotte gets a Gori special submission, but Lexi turns it into a rana in the buckle. Alexa wants a baseball slide rana, but gets a sideswipe powerbomb into the barricade instead. Twisted bliss misses and a figure four leads to a cradle. Snapping DDT gets 2.9 when Charlotte gets the rope. Charlotte throws the doll and boots Lexi! Natural Selection ends it - shocked Lexi didn't win so Charlotte could get another reign. Decent-ish match - best one Lexi has had in ages. Charlotte destroys the doll before Alexa beats her up. They brawl and Lexi gets tossed over the table. Lexi looks onto the destroyed doll and the doll is more over than most of the roster. A "thank you Lilly" chant breaks out before Alexa chomps on an Alka Seltzer to appear foaming at the mouth..in theory.

Hardy comes out in black gear with purple, green, and white paint. Sheamus eats a shot from Jeff before clubbreing Damian and then eating a dropkick from Jeff. Sheamus gets an Alabama slam and we see his taped-up nose after the face cover is gone during the move. High kick on the apron by Priest leads to a slingshot something that Sheamo catches him and gets the white noise, but a twisto hits. Reckoning is avoided and Jeff slips on an inverted Twist that they save as an attempted dragon sleeper. Sheamo goes up and does the ALEX WRIGHT DANCE to mock Jeff. SWANTON ON THE STACK gets 2 and a big pop. Brogue hits and Jeff shoves him out for 2.9! Brogue to Jeff and Priest schoolboys Sheamus to win. Good to great a points - odd to see faces so heelish.

Big E says he didn't hide behind anything and his ass better get ready because ON RAW AT 8PM SHARP, IT'S TITLE TIME! Bianca shows up and kills the 'cock. Bianca's out and then Becky's out as THE TOP GUY with Cole saying "she was out for a year and a half". Or you can just say she had a kid. That's okay. Bianca dropkick sends her out and Becky as a heel bails for a bit.

Becky gets outs a "Shut your FREAKING faces!" before a corner-mount punch series leads to a spinebuster to Lynch for 2. JBL MADE THE FALLAWAY SLAM FAMOUS!? In a world with Scott Hall!? Draping legdrop from Becky gets 2. Stacked armbar by Becky meets a Rampage bomb from Bianca for 2. Disarmer is almost locked on for another counter, but SASHA RETURNS AND RUNS WILD. Poor Bianca. Sasha brawls with everyone - so I guess a triple threat is up for the next non-Crown Jewel PPV.

Goofy wacky intro for The Demona fter Roman's own intro gets Peacock'd. DEMONIC lock-up.
DEMONIC back-rake. Balor gets FOUR KENDO STICKS and then gets a double stomp on a chair. Giant uranage through a table by Roman. Spear by Roman means a boot and another spear gets 2.9 when THE DEMON low-blows him with his arm on the way up from a 2 count. COUP DE GRACE hits for 2.9 when the Usos hit the ring. Demon bomb through the table for Jimmy. ROMAN SPEAR THROUGH THE TIMEKEEPER'S AREA. THE DEMON'S THEME hits and it's his headbeat and he DEMONS UP before the coup de grace...but THE ROPE BREAKS and the spear ends it. LOL.

This was a horribly-booked show in so many ways. WWE has such a great roster of talent, but they can't get out of their own way.
