AEW Dynamite Grand Slam 9-22-21

 

It's the debut of wrestling at Arthur Ashe Stadium! Danielson vs. Omega is opening the show and Danielson is out in maroon and silver while Omega debuts some new black, blue, and white gear. We get a slow build ala Rock-Hogan at Mania, but with them separating before A TIEUP. Middle kick in the rope SENDS OMEGA DOWN! Omega gets a rope break and eats a kick before we get a "fuck him up Bryan, fuck him up!" chant. 

Chops aplenty redden the chest of Danielson before a suicide dive by Bryan! Omega gets a foot choke in the corner before stomping away. MASSIVE chops to Danielson before a knee to the gut hits off a Danielson charge and a kick to the back. TERMINATOR DIVE BY OMEGA! Cradle exchange gets 2 BEFORE THE CATTLE MUTILATION - but Omega gets the rope! BUSAIKU KNEE OFF THE TOP TO THE RAMP!

Kneeling kick combo on the ramp before A SNAPDRAGON ON THE RAMP! RAMP-RUNNING V TRIGGER SENDS OMEGA INTO THE RING! DR. WILY BUCKLE BOMB SENDS BRYAN OVER THE TOP! Bryan avoids a snapdragon, but eats a hook kick from Kenny! V TRIGGER TO THE NECK ON THE ROPES! Kenny wants an avalanche dragon, but Bryan escapes! REGALPLEX GETS 2!

AVALANCHE DRAGON SUPLEX BY KENNY gets a flip bump and a 2.9! Rope trap V TRIGGER! OWA MEETS A POISON RANA! Busaiku knee meets a Rampagebomb before a V trigger gets 2! Omega misses the phoenix splash! Bryan enters FUCKING HEAD KICKED-IN MODE and the grounded PRIDE stomps lead to the Lebell lock before Justin announces that time is nearly over. CORNER DROPKICKS! RIPCORD KNEE meets a ripcord elbow by Bryan. V TRIGGER BY BRYAN! Kneeling headbutts and punches! The time limit ends amid a pure fight! LeBell lock on after the match before the Super Clique comes out! 

Cage and Luchasaurus save Bryan. THIS RULED. This was about as perfect a TV match as you could ever have. Punk says WRESTLING IS BACK IN NEW YORK and he's glad he isn't wrestling on this show because you can't follow the opener. He rambles on for a bit before saying Team Taz should've finished the job and at Rampage Grand Slam, he'll put Hobbs to sleep. 

MJF and Wardlow are out with MJF belittling Wardlow as he enters the ring. Brian's out with Julia and they have MIS-MATCHED GEAR! Brian takes him down and slugs away! Brian runs wild with corner forearms before an eye poke. Series of deep armdrags by Pillman! MJF ducks down and eats a boot and Brian does it, but HE AVOIDS THE BOOT! A SMART BABYFACE!?

MJF works on the arm a bit before talking shit to Julia and eating a baseball slide. A "Brian Pillman" chant hits before Air Pillman misses and the Fujiwara armbar ends it. JR puts over that he lost on this night - but could win if given another chance. Marvez meets with Jericho and Hager, with Hager saying it's time to spank some boys. AEW has managed to make Malakai Black come off as the Demon version of Aleister Black without saying it - great stuff. MASSIVE boos for Cody, who comes out in a ridiculous outfit.

LOL @ Brandi's "fuck you" on TNT and then THE HEEL BEING OUTNUMBERED. Did Cody watch TNA and think "shit, I need to steal from this"! Cody dives into a leaping knee on the ramp. MASSIVE pop for Malakai on that one. Black Mass sends Cody outside. Arn tosses him in because he's dead weight and Cody gets the foot on the rope for 2. Chop block by Cody! Rope dragon screw by Cody to boos! Knee-DT on the rope! CODY CUTTER AND THE CROSS RHODES GETS 2.9! Arn and Cody meet on the apron and Cody checks on him before Cody gets misted and small packaged to end it. This sucked compared to the first match - way too overbooked.

Sammy vs. Miro is made for the TNT Title and Miro talks about breaking his neck 9 years ago - but his wife and God put him together. FTR vs. Darby and Sting is up next. FTR in NWO-esque gear is odd - THEY HATED THE HORSEMEN! Sting's out with NEW PAINT ala Darby here. This is a smart way for Sting to freshen up his look while still being a legendary figure. Sting's working in a shirt here. Sting runs wild and a stinger splash misses!

Dax legdrops Sting for 1. FALLING HEADBUTT LOW BLOW FROM STING! Coffin splashes in the corner before Darby goes for the flying coffin drop to both on the floor, but gets caught and tossed into the apron! Darby dives into a tag but gets tossed before a rolling tag and  Sting runs wild. Double facebuster and a spinebuster gets 2! Crossbody gets 2 for Sting! Schoolboy gets 2 for Dax. Tombstone tease but Sting wants a death drop. Sting avoids a chair usage in the corner and gets the death lock while Darby coffin drops Cash leading to a tapout win!

Ruby vs. Britt recap from Rampage before they shill Rhodes to the Top and we get a preview. Ruby is out and looks like such a star before Britt's out with her belt on the tron. Ruby trips her and tackles her down. Foot catching boot leads to a knee by Ruby. TWIST AND SHOUT OFF THE APRON BY BRITT! Great move for an ad break. 

Deadly Night Shade knees in the corner by Ruby! Slingblade by Britt! Britt gets the glove and flips off the camera before a kneebar by Ruby. Ruby catapults her into the buckle and a step-up enzuiguri hits! SENTON OFF THE TOP GETS 2! SUPER AIR RAID CRASH BY BRITT GETS 2! Britt bell rings her into the steps and then the curb stomp gets 2! No Future kick hits, but Aubrey is distracted and Rebel eats the kick. Britt uses it to get the Lockjaw and win! 

AEW Dynamite 9-15-21 - Prelude to Grand Slam

Punk comes out and fans are vibing and marking out before he even does the stagedive! Punk marks out over Cole and Kaz gets a nice pop. Cole tosses him over the top and Kaz hits the floor hard on his left side. Pump kick by Cole hits hard before some mounted punches. Wacky double cross armbreaker by Kaz to Cole, but Kaz rushes in and eats an ushigoroshi for 2. Kaz avoids a Sunrise with an Alabama slam instead of the Omori driver and a springboard legdrop gets 2. Patella brainbuster gets 2 for Cole. Panama sunrise and the last shot end it - good-ish match here.  

Cole demands a trios match with himself and the Bucks against Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy, and Christian Cage for next week. Lucha Bros. in amazing suits challenge Butcher and Blade for a match on Rampage. Tony chats with Fuego and Sammy, and Fuego has a slick outfit and A NEW CAR. He is willing to risk the car for a title shot against Miro on Rampage. 

MJF in an absurd suit even by his standards insults Jersey. MJF says that he might have offended some folks last week and amid a "shut the fuck up" chant tells them that he doesn't care. MJF says he needs to talk to Flyin Brian and yells to hell. He hates his horrible son - the worst second generation wrestler ever. Pillman Jr getting a big win in Arthur Ashe would be a career-maker for him. MJF sends Wardlow to meet Pillman at the ramp but Brian jumps him. Brian low-bridges Wardlow and runs wild with the chair! 

We get a video package of Jim Ross talking with Brian about how much he loved his father and he has a chance to redeem himself next week. Dante and Matt Sydal face FTR next. Jungle Boy chats and gets some rips in while Christian says he wants Cole and since he's used to losing Wednesday night wars, he'll do it on Rampage. No intros for either FTR or the faces. Dante runs wound before Dax stops him but Matt tags in. Flying knee to cash! HEEL CHEATING off an abdominal stretch! Sunset flip/Rana combo gets 2 for the faces. Big Rig ends it and Dash gets a wacky cover to win it.

Punk talks about THE SUZUKI INCIDENT and he feels insulted and WANTS PAYBACK AND HE WANTS TO HEAR HIS THEME! Suzuki-gun hype vid against Mox and Kingston next week. Malakai is out! He has a new hooded cape over his suit that looks incredible. Black calls out Rosario Dawson, who hops on him before CODY RETURNS IN A VERY RED SUIT for a brawl. More walk and brawling in the stands. On a scale of 1-Jeff Jarrett, this walk and brawl has reached latter-day HHH levels.

Allie vs. Anna Jay hype video leads to Uno interrupting Reynolds and we get some sub-Brazzers acting. Lambert says AEW sells merch - all the men's smalls and women's XLs before burying the fans for liking highspots. Jericho comes out and Lambert tells them to turn this shit off because the fans don't know the words. Punk puts over Lambert having UFC, Bellator, PFL, and Bare Knuckle fighters in the ring with him. Jericho asks which member of American Top Team is on top? 

Jericho says he had a shoot fight with the MMA TRAINED BILL. Lambert says that if they really want to see the Inner Circle Jerk taken out by the Men of the Year, it has to happen in a REAL CITY, not the shithole of New Jersey. It will go down in New York City! Jericho calls them pussies and says there will be no escape from New York! 

Gunn Clubb points out that they're unbeaten in all tag combos and all trios - but THEY HAVEN'T GOTTEN THEIR SHOT. Jade's out to face Leyla and we see their history at All Out and then their brawl on Dark. I like using the shoulder programming on Dynamite. Leyla gets a shotgun knee in the corner before an armbar. Rampage bomb out of it. Suicide dive by Leyla before the moonsault misses and Jade's pump kick hits! Glam Slam ends it! Andrade has yes, A NEW MANAGER in Jose. He didn't approve of Chavo interfering and wow just get Flair in here.

Taz and Hook interrupt Punk and Hobbs jumps him before Hook chokes him out with a dragon sleeper. They toss the announcers out before Hobbs chokeslams Punk on the I AM THE TABLE. Spears says that Darby calls him generic - and he's right - BUT HE ALSO BEAT DARBY FIRST! Spears looks like such a star with this kind of presentation and he runs wild with a gordbuster on the rope. Spears sets up steps and knees his head into the steps!

RUNNING KNEE MISSES! Spears gets a rag and wets it down to take the face paint off of Darby. Spears sends Darby off the top with his necklace before hitting the suicide dive on the steps and the coffin drop to the back! This ruled! Sting and Darby brawl with FTR before Tully chairshots Sting to the back! SPIKE PILEDRIVER TO STING! Tremendous! Tully takes Sting's paint off too. This is low-key great. 

Danielson says that the Elite seems scared and he knows how great Omega is. Bryan says he's game and he would love his first match in AEW to be against Omega. Don calls him a hippie millionaire and the real carny piece of shit. Bryan wants the match and Don says no so Bryan calls him a piece of shit. HE CAME HERE TO TALK TO OMEGA, TO FACE THE GOD OF PRO WRESTLING. All he sees is a guy who hangs out with stooges and lets this piece of shit talk for him. Bryan doesn't think he's lost a step - but he has lost his balls. OMEGA ACCEPTS!

Matt Hardy says he'll take everything away that makes Orange Cassidy cool and calls him the ORANGE EGGHEAD! BRYAN VS. OMEGA IS MADE for Dynamite as is Ruby vs. Britt. CM Punk vs. Hobbs for Rampage! Jericho and Hager face off the Men of the Year at Rampage. WOW. Mox and Kingston beat the shit out of 2.0 and Eddie's backfist and DDT hit! Half nelson lariat to Parker ends it. THIS RULED! SUZUKI-GUN IS OUT! KAZE NI NARI right as Suzuki and Mox stare down and King and Archer brawl! Mox almost eats a Gotch driver through a table, but fights out!
