AEW Dynamite 12-29-21 - New Year's Smash

Jim Ross returns tonight and we get the final Dynamite on TNT before the move to TBS. We get a slick intro with shots of the set before JIM ROSS GETS HIS PPV INTRO for his return! Lucha Bros, Jurassic Express, and Christian Cage face FTR and the HFO with Private Party dancing to FTR's theme. Cage gets corner punches on BOTH MEMEBRS OF FTR as Dax walks into him on the apron to attack and it backfires.

COMEBACKER LARIAT TO MATT by Jack. Luchasaurus tags in and RUNS WILD ON EVERYONE. Chokeslam to Dax and Penta comes in and gets a pop-up backstabber for 2. CRAZY DIVES FROM FENIX AND JACK! Cage tags in after Penta's blind tag and eats a Big Rig to lose the fall. Christian vs. Penta will be a fun TV match. 

Kingston, and Proud and Powerful face off with 2.0 and Garcia with Kingston OVER AF. Garcia hits Roman's drive-by on Ortiz.  Santana eats the bell from Garcia and JERICHO RETURNS WITH THE BAT! Jericho working a program with 2.0 is a smart move for him because he really does need people around him to make him look good. Eddie gets pissed at Jericho coming out only when his theme played - hey, logic! 

MJF chats about Wardlow winning the upcoming Revolution ladder match to give him the title shot and Wardlow is OFFICIALLY not down with that. Smart Mark Sterling comes in and says that as part of his deal with MJF, LLC, MJF gets all of Wardlow's accolades including title shots before hyping Jade up. MJF says cool and tells him to leave alongside Spears. Tremendous delivery here. Cage calls Lucha Bros dipshits and demands a tag title match with his guys against them. AND IT'S ON!

Wardlow comes out to destroy Colin Delaney, who is fat, old, and bald. POWERBOMB SYMPHONY! Superkliq and TUE are backstage and Kyle and Adam bring up their issues in NXT, but there's strength in numbers in AEW. Good stuff that brings up the past without making it the focus. ATT is out and Lambert calls Brandi a stripper and buries Cody, so she comes out and says that he may be a black belt, but she's a black bitch and they go at it before Dustin eats a beating.

They hype up the debut on the Mothership, which I bet confuses some modern TBS execs. Jade is out in Christmas gear against THUNDER ROSA as X23. Jade rests on the corner while Rosa rolls in intensely - perfect showcase of their characters' differences. Jade catches her on the floor for a big backbreaker. Jade gets some strikes, which she's not quite good at and then eats a series of kicks in the corner. 

Samoan drop by Jade, but her knee gives out after the nip-up. KNEEBREAKER AND FIGURE FOUR BY ROSA! Rosa gets kicked into the buckle and bottled to the head by someone and Jaded ends it! Mercedes Martinez is revealed as the attacker! Wow - I thought for sure it would be Britt's crew. AEWDARKOUTTANOWHERE video shows Leyla and Kris not getting along. Britt-Riho hype video sets up Battle of the Belts.

CM PUNK IS OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN DAILY'S PLACE and looks a lot better with a shaved-down beard. He calls out Jim Ross and says he's the best to ever do it and thanks him. Wow. Punk just did more to show genuine love and respect for Jim Ross than WWE did in ages. Punk talks about Brodie Lee and says that anyone who knocks him never met him and the tribute show to him made him want to come to AEW.

Punk knocks Shepard for what he said about Brodie and calls MJF a twitter troll and he is looking at bigger things than MJF - and he wants the AEW World Title just like MJF does. Punk gets his own spotlight and Punk says that it's the end of AEW on TNT and MJF is a bigger waste of Khan money than Tim Tebow. Starks and Hobbs talk about being glad Ross is back since it lets Taz coach them again and he calls out Dante and says he can't win a damn thing. We get a recap of Hobbs destroying Dante and then see Cody beating Sammy for the TNT Title. 

Sammy comes out and we get signs before the break and then Tony is mid-ring with Pillman Jr. He says he never knew his father, but he learned from him that you only get one life - and he's not giving Malakai his. The lights go out and Malakai appears and psychs him out. Cody vs. Ethan Page is up for Rampage and Darby faces Bowens TayJay faces Bunny and Ford in a street fight and a TECHNIQUE BY TAZ video on Hook!

"THERE'S NO DISPUTING THIS TRIO" is out to face The Best Friends and OC. Love the ReDRagon theme for Fish and KOR thanks to Fish getting it before. Fish kicks Chuckie's leg on the apron. Superkick by Cole to OC and Trent gets a half and half on Cole! Demo decap kneedrop by ReDRagon gets 2! OC comes in and runs wild on KOR! STUNDOG BY OC! Double team draping DDT and German for 2.9! High low and Chuckie T hits a superkick on the ramp. FLIP DIVE BY CHUCKIE ON REDRAGON! Spear to Cole by Trentylocks! DIVING DDT BY OC GETS 2.9! 

Trent piledriver to AC and a Beach Break to AC gets 2.9! Kawada kicks by KOR to OC and that fires him up! Schoolboy gets 2 for OC! SOLE FOOD/HALF AND HALF! Cutler gets beaten up and THE BUCKS SUPERKICK and Chasing the Dragn ends it! This was a blast - great match. Not an amazing show, but very hot and cold.

AEW Dynamite 12-15-21 - WINTER IS COMING - Page vs. Danielson

 DANIELSON VS. PAGE STARTS THE SHOW OFF. Unreal. We get a staredown and no company in the US does as good a job of shooting the action as they do. Saving the best for first to ensure it gets as much ad-free time as possible - I love it! Bryan gets a takedown and is SO PLEASED with himself. Tremendous. Every time Page gets an edge, Bryan goes right to the rope. 

DANIELSON CHOPS and then Page runs through another one and chops him into the buckle! Bryan brings back the kneeling figure four forearms! Danielson teases a suicide dive, BUT HE'S A HEEL so he eats a boot and then eats a dive. Danielson, clearing taking notes from The Miz - catches him perfectly. Danielson does JUMPING JACKS DURING THE AD BREAK.

Back suplex by the champ! SUICIDE DIVE AND MOONSAULT BY HANGMAN! Big death valley bomb hits for Page and gets 2! Page moonsault misses and a la majistral gets 2! ANKLE LOCK BY BRYAN! Danielson hoists him up for it AND KICKS HIS RIBS! Trio of corner dropkicks lead to a POP-UP POWERBOMB. He goes for another moonsault, but Bryan tosses him on the apron! BRYAN/NIGEL SHOULDER RAMS INTO THE POST!

One slides into the head and Page is sliced and eats a baseball slide and a flying knee off the apron. APRON KICKS BY BRYAN lead to HIM KICKING THE POST. Page takes the covers off the barricade and traps Bryan's boot in it TO KICK HIM. Love it. Page is MORE RUTHLESS due to Bryan doing that to him. FIGURE FOUR BY PAGE! 

Triangle and THEN THE RAMPAGE BOMB BUT ANOTHER TRIANGLE WITH ELBOWS! Page gets the rope! Tombstone piledriver outta nowhere to Bryan gets 2! Flying knee to the arm in the rope before a Regalplex by Bryan! Super back suplex hits for 2.9! Gotch driver attempt on the apron BUT HANGMAN DEAD EYES HIM! Page doesn't want to wait and dives INTO BRYAN WHO THROWS HIM INTO A TIMEKEEPER'S TABLE! 

DDT by Bryan. GERMAN BY PAGE! Page goes for a forearm, but eats a kick and then a giant PK to the other one!  SUPER GERMAN BY BRYAN BUT PAGE BACKFLIPS OUT AND DISCUS LARIATS HIM! DISCUS FOREARM BY PAGE! ROUNDHOUSE BY BRYAN! "I'M GONNA KICK HIS FUCKING HEAD IN!" - Danielson ARM TRAP KICKS! Danielson smacks him around. BUSAIKU KNEE MEETS A DEADEYE-ish move for 2.9.

THE SUPERKLIQ (and Bobby Fish) - poor Bobby Fish gets And Zoidberg'd. Wardlow destroys Sydal and Spears chairshots Sydal a bunch. Spears tells Wardlow that he has to go get some bubbly for MJF - he'll drive and Wardlow can just go buy it in his gear. Tay challenges Penelope to a submission match and Ford says she'll tap her out like a pussy with the Muta lock on Rampage. Malakai Black says the past isn't a crutch - it's an arrow and the House of Black is here. "Now you're so much more than a king..." - Cool. Brody King looks to be AEW-bound.

Deeb vs. Shida is up with Deeb in a new PROFESSOR OF PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING robe and Shida...wearing what looks like a diaper. Figure four on the post WITH THE STEPS...Smart - looks safer. AEW on TBS ad. Good matwork here. Nothing too amazing. FALCON ARROW BY SHIDA! Cradle counters and Deeb gets a half-crab! Deeb undoes the top buckle pad and eats it after a figure four counter and a jacknife pin ends it. Good-ish, not amazing. 

Griff and Pillman bicker over saving Julia and Griff threatens Malakai Black with a broken jaw. I do not like his chances on that one. HOOK HYPE VIDEO. MJF comes out and calls this place a goddamn dump and their daughters swallow. They're also anti-education and pro-incest. MJF gets Ryback over saying that Punk's like him - underwhelming wins over nobodies and tonight he'll win with a headlock!

Dynamite ring is put on a pedestal with a Maxwell Just Farted sign and then we get a CORNETTE IS OUT OF TOUCH sign. Dante hits a big dive to the floor and is shining in the main event slot. MJF gives him a lot of shine with a diving knee to the floor! Big forearm shiver to MJF sends him down! MJF avoids the Nosedive and lands a right hand. 10 COUNT PUNCHES...to the buckle by Dante. Teaching moment there. 

HEADLOCK TAKEOVER gets 2 for MJF. DANTE GETS ONE FOR 2. I love that single line meaning something more in this match. LIGERBOMB GETS 2! Nosedive hits and Starks puts MJF's foot on the rope! SALT OF THE EARTH IS ON AND HE TAPS HIM! THREE-TIME DIAMOND RING WINNER! THE LIGHTS GO OUT!

Sting and Darby attack FTR! MJF low-blows Sting! CM Punk chant to set up one hell of a six-man tag! Punk, Sting, and Darby vs. MJF and FTR is going to be amazing. They needed six man tag titles long ago for stuff like this. The match is made for next week's Dynamite! 

AEW Dynamite 12-1-21 - Sting battles THE GUNN CLUB IN ATLANTA

Sting returns to the home of WCW to wrestle a match in almost 2022 with Billy Gunn and the Ass Boys. Daneilson vs. Angels starts the show off with Hangman on commentary and his lower-thirds graphic letting us know that he's unskilled at the art of BBQ. Dasha is on the stick for the intros since Justin Roberts is out for a family issue. Hard chops by Angels lead to Danielson getting some gorgeous uppercuts but getting backslid off a BOLO UPPERCUT attempt. BUSAIKU KNEE HITS ANGELS! Kneebar ends it WITH THE POSE!

Silver says that Page and Bryan can't touch, so he runs after him and Bryan says no - he's beneath him! Punk vs. Moriarty is up and MJF comes out dressed as Seth Rollins or Boyd Pierce. Diving lariat by Punk gets a GUN SHOW! Lee gets an arm-trap crossface/Gargano Escape on him! Super rana by Punk that Lee turns into a sunset flip for 2. Roundhouse by Punk! Kneeling brogue kick hits for Lee and a Bloody Sunday Falcon Arrow gets 2.9. Inverted suplex into the GTS WINS IT FOR PUNK!  

MJF buries him for taking so long to beat QT and Lee and says the only thing Punk's the best at is trying to get in Britt Baker's pants - and Punk looks unamused, like Britt would be. He's not CM Punk - he's One Pump Chump. Punk says that both Lee and QT are better than MJF and he knows it. MJF says he'll win the Dynamite dozen battle royal next week in LI. He will be with fans who LOVE HIM and he'll be better than Piper in Portland, Bret in Canada, or Punk in Chicago. MJF threatens PUNK'S DOG and then he has Wardlow protect him.

Britt bitches about the Riho match and Jamie says she was busy having a match and couldn't do the Friendsgiving. Jamie faces Riho next week  Mega babyface ADAM COLE BAYBAY! is out for commentary. He's angry at OC for coming out. "Are you looking at me?" leading to the "YEAH" in the song is perfect timing. OC LOW KICKS TO THE BUCKS and Cole Chyna low blows him. Bucks attack before OC's buddies save. Nese cuts a.. good by his standard promo on Sammy. Wardlow comes out to kill a dude. Poor AC Adams. CHAIN O' POWERBOMBS and Wardlow wins it before Spears chairshots Adams a bunch.

Fenix can't travel so Penta will team with PAC. Gunn Club vs. Darby and Sting is up and Sting wearing Darby's paint design is great - it's a low-key way to have Sting put Darby over more. Colt charges Darby down before we get Sting vs. Billy! Taz brings up Billy avoiding the stinger splash after taking it many many years ago. MASSIVE One and Only by Billy to Darby. 

Sharpshooter by Colt to Darby! Scorpion by Sting to Colt but Austin clocks him. Fameasser hits BUT ONLY GETS 2! Cannonball tope to Billy! Stundog into the death drop to Colt! Sting and Darby win it and we get a big Darby celebration. Jericho meets with Alex Marvez looking like a guy debuting on the 1/4/10 Impact in all-black with a black leather jacket before getting beaten up by 2.0.

Taz does a Steiner Math recreation promo while Hobbs is in a salmon shirt that he got from Mark Henry, I can only assume. Lio comes out and they just banter and kill the show dead. Lio says he's a fighter and Dante is out with Team Taz again. Mark and Jade hype up Jade again and a Thunder Rosa student will face her on Rampage. Rosa will be doing commentary ON THAT MATCH. 

Chain wrestling and then a NOSE BOOP. Love it. Great nearfall for Ruby sees her gets 2 and lose her mind before getting a poison rana and a basement rana for a SHOCKED 2.5. No Future is avoided and BB Theory is countered for the win! Cody vs. Andrade in a street fight is up next. Andrade is out with Jose and A DAGGER and T-Pain is out to hype The Go-Big Show. 

Andrade's out and Arn falls off the stage before Jose helps him up so they can brawl. CODY WAS A LEGEND IN THE STATE FOR HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING. El Oh El.  Cody hugs T-Pain to boos and then gets a chair from him for more boos. Andrade whips him with the weight belt and then smashes Jose's laptop over his head. Wasteland by Andrade before a GORGEOUS split-legged moonsault gets 2. 

Chain shot by Cody leads to a Bulldog-style powerslam. Cody tope hit with a chair. Andrade goes for the Shadow on the bare floor again, but Cody backdrops him. SHOTGUN KNEES TO THE CHAIR by Andrade! HIPTOSS THROUGH A TABLE by Andrade and that had to suck for Cody. Cody's on a table and they fight for a superplex. Andrade gets
