AEW Dynamite 1-24-24 - Suzuki vs. Copeland

Doing this is a bit later than usual due to work calling me in, but thanks to the Sling DVR, I've got it! Joe says tonight's a night where a new era begins because NOW chances for this title MUST BE EARNED! All who face him EARN A SHOT TO SUFFER! Hook comes out with a mic and says Joe won last week and he lost - and he'll see him again! "SECURITY GET THE UNWORTHY OUT OF MY RING!" Page vs. Penta is up and Penta dominates to start while Joe demands silence for the Penta chop! DVD by Page hits for 2!

Penta wants the arm snapper, but Page avoids it! Ligerbomb gets 2 for Page! Triangle destroyer attempt by Penta leads to an APRON DEADEYE AND THE MOONSAULT! Buckshot misses, comebacker doesn't AND THE BUCKSHOT ENDS IT! This was an outstanding TV match. Page wants Joe and OC wants a friends and like maybe enemies match on Rampage and the winner faces him on Collision. Maybe.

The EVP Young Bucks meet with Alex Marvez and tell him to show respect - THEIR PASSPORT NAMES NEED TO BE USED and morale is through the roof and catering is top-tier! They tell Top Flight to wear their gear and today, they'll let it slide - but in the future, it will be a fine. Trent's out to be massacred by Wardlow and fights with things like a chair to set up a half and half! Trent lands a big tornado DDT and shows how important it is to build stars up because you never think he'll win even with a 2 off a piledriver. Bodyblock into a powerslam and then powerbomb to Trent. 

Deonna and Toni Storm chat on the ramp and Toni says Deonna shouldn't be bodyshamed - THERE'S SO MUCH MORE TO SHAME HER FOR! We get a cool side by side black and white/color bit for this. Deonna says she wants the Toni Storm who slept on dojos and moved into her house when she came to America. She wants to remind her of who she is and THEY HAVE MATCHING TATTOOS! Toni tells her she can take that tattoo and shove it out of her bumhole and then Deonna armbars her! DEONNA BOOTS LUTHER AND HOLDS THE GOLD HIGH!

Mox says the BCC doesn't celebrate - they don't have the time because there's always a new mountain to climb. It's 2024 and he's here to torture anyone who doesn't live up to his standard! Taya's rack and Johnny TV are pissed about being passed over for title shots. Deonna vs. Taya is up for next week. Swerve vs Jeff Hardy is up and DAMN SWERVE IS OVER. Nana is also all over the dance. They put over Jeff disrespecting Darby and he comes out slow and a bit angry. 

Jeff gets a Russian legsweep and a dragon whip. Twist avoided by Swerve before Jeff hangs on for a modified Slingblade. TWISTO ON THE STEPS! Jeff goes up for the swanton but it misses and the House Call kick hits for 2.9! Swerve twisto meets a backslide counter for 2 before Jeff lands a jawbreaker trio! Flatliner into a gator roll brainbuster and the Swerve stomp with the Hardy pose ends it! Two out of two great matches for Jeff Hardy here - good run for him! Swerve and Page pick each other's next matches and match types!

Thunder Rosa vs. Red Velvet is up for Rosa's first Dynamite singles match since 2022. Velvet gets a victory roll double stomp before a Rosa northern lights gets 2. BASEMENT DROPKICK TO THE FACE ON THE ROPES BY ROSA! Shotgun dropkick hits for Rosa and a cradle sideslam wins it - and that's the Tijuana Bomb. Okay then - okay match. Sting and Darby are out and Sting has odd paint on his whole neck now. Darby says that Sting has had an impact on him before their time in AEW and it's due to him having to retire in 2015 and he flew to his house in Texas and they rolled around in the ring and he told Sting he still had it. 

Backstage, Matthew and Nicholas are watching hockey on a multi-Turner feed. Darby says the rankings are back and THEY'RE THE TOP CONTENDERS! Darby tells Sting that he's still got it and he's not the only one who says that - and a light chant breaks out. He's all in and they're on! Backstage, Bill and Starks thank them for FINALLY showing them the respect they deserve by being named and called champions and they accept! Starks says that it's fitting that Sting and his partner faced Starks and his partner now - because he's not making it to Revolution!

Mogul Embassy is out to get the AEW Trios Titles after losing the ROH Trios Tags. The Bang Bang Gang's entrance is over huge already. Caster raps to insult them all and they go after Billy for 2. Bowens runs wild on Leona before Caster takes out Cage with a TKO. Gunns double powerbomb Nana through a timekeeper's table and the Bang Bang Scissor Gang keeps the gold to avoid the heel bullshit! 3D hits Leona! FAMEASSER HITS! Arrival and Mic Drop end it and THE GUNNS ARE ALL ONE UNIT!

COPE OPEN TIME with Copeland in a hockey jersey - violent gentleman! KAZE NI NARE! Back and forth forearms and punches to start! Chops aplenty and Cope avoids the rope armbar. Rope spear meets a knee and Suzuki gets a rope guillotine! SPEAR THROUGH THE BARRICADE WITH THE GUILLOTINE ON! Excalibur talks about Suzuki getting most of his MMA wins via submission to put that choke over. Sting and Darby is set for two weeks in Phoenix. Fujiwara armbar is on but he escapes and a spear hits for 2.9! 

CRABWALK RNC BY SUZUKI! Unreal! CHOKEOUT TIME and Cope is purple! Copeland rolls him into the buckle and the Killswitch ends it! This was fantastic! Backstage, we get old footage of Cage in the red jacket looking on annoyed. Nice show of respect between Suzuki and Cope and this was a fun show.

AEW Dynamite 1-17-24 - HOOK vs. Samoa Joe

Tonight's show has a fascinating main event because the outcome isn't really in doubt, but the actual match - the moment to moment, is fascinating. We get a strong video package starting off the show with Joe vs. Hook as THE focus. THE FOCUS. THE FOCUS. Christian Cage vs. Dustin Rhodes starts the show off with a TNT Title match and it should be a good one. The ring and barricades are in a Suicide Squad game wrap and it looks cool. 

Snap slam gets 2 for Dustin before Cage's legs smash into the steps and Dustin hits a run-up lariat off the steps! CORNER PUNCHES APLENTY FOR DUSTIN! Crossbody misses for Dustin and sends him outside. KNEELING SLUGFEST INCOMING! Inverted atomic into a kneeling boot by Dustin! Slick bulldog hits for 2! Dustin's tope meets an uppercut and neck snap. Frog splash gets 2 for Cage! Dustin goes for a small package, but Nick reverses it for 2. Superplex and  Cross Rhodes gets 2.9! DESTROYER ON THE FLOOR TO NICK WAYNE! Dustin eats a buckle, spear and KILLSWITCH GETS 2.9! Second one ends it! WOW THIS RULES. 

Swerve says he stole the show in the Classic and now he wants the top prize. Hangman wants it - and while he's great and he beat Omega, Daniels and the title and even beat Mox! IF GOD OPENED UP THE CLOUDS, HANGMAN WOULD HAVE A CHANCE! But he couldn't beat me! Jericho talks shit to the Callis Family and wants another match with Takeshita after the classic in Tokyo! Orange Cassidy and Trent Baretta are out to face Komander and Penta!

Quick action between Penta and OC before a DELAYED MADE IN JAPAN ON OC and a dive by Komander to the floor! POETRY IN MOTION DESTROYER BY PENTA! ROPERUN SPLASH GETS 2.5! PHOENIX SPLASH MISSES FOR KOMANDER, but the Busaiku hits! Beach Break to Penta! Orange punch and the dudebuster wins it! RAINMAKER HUG TO OC IS INTERRUPTED BY THE UNDISPUTED KINGDOM! Well sans Cole, who is thankfully not having to make every town.

Strong tells OC to take his glasses off and look him in the eyes - HE WANTS THAT TITLE. Strong gets a SHUT THE FUCK UP chant while Taz rants about Southern hospitality and Strong wants his shot in six weeks at Revolution! Hangman and his stache are backstage with Renee and he says he won the title but HE WILL PUT HIS NAME ON IT! He says that Swerve isn't the champ - so he doesn't have to beat him, he has to beat Joe. JAY BRISCOE TRIBUTE TIME!

Mark asks WHAT'S GOOD BABY and he's out to represent DEMBOYS! One year ago, his brother passed on. His oldest niece was told she'd never walk again. NICHOLAS AND MATTHEW JACKSON ARE HERE! There will now be proper accounting practices in place for all Superkick Parties. THAT MEANS EVERYONE BETTER KEEP RECEIPTS! They started the company and Sting as the old guar really doesn't fit their vision. Sting is totally winning his retirement match.

BC Gold is out with a new theme to face the Mogul Embassy for the ROH six-man tags. Bishop hits an air raid crash on Colten. Bowens helps the BC Gold win it! NEW CHAMPS! TIMELESS TONI STORM IS HERE FOR COMMENTARY! Deonna is out and Ian hypes up Deonna's time in wrestling and knowing her since she was 19 and she'll face Anna Jay. She calls Taz Tazmania and Ian Tony. Deonna beats her and Deonna says that she and Toni used to be close, but now, Toni's changed. Toni threatens to hit her in the box and we get RAMPANT SHOE-THROWING! A fan holds up an MJF PETS HIS HELLO KITTY DREAMCAST sign. 

Good heel showcase match for Private Party with Quen using the rope to win. Hook vs. Joe has a big fight build and Hook just no-sells Joe's presence completely. Incredible! Hook rushes him and eats a chop and gets run into the barricade, but HOOK HITS A FLYING FOREARM OFF THE BARRICADE! ANOTHER OFF THE APRON! URANAGE ON THE ANNOUNCE TABLE BY JOE! POWERBOMB ON THE APRON BY JOE! Taz gets off the headset to sell this and says as his father, he wants him to stay down. Snap powerslam gets 2.5! 

DEATH VALLEY DRIVER HITS FOR JOE AND GETS 2! MUSCLE BUSTER HITS FOR 1! HE'S HOOKING UP! REDRUM, BUT JOE BLOCKS IT AND GETS THE REAR NAKED ON! THAT'S IT! JOE CHOKES HIM OUT. Easy five star match there. Hook tells him THAT'S ALL YOU GOT! ANOTHER MUSCLE BUSTER!

HOOK IS GETTING UP AND WANTS MORE! Hangman comes out to save him from himself and stares down Joe! We get a group staredown with Nana and Swerve, Joe, and Hangman. What a title run this is going to be!

AEW Dynamite 1-10-24 - Homecoming - Daily's Place

AEW was lucky to have a gorgeous-looking venue to run all the time during COVID and now they're coming back to the home of many of the company's earliest memories. Gorgeous shots of the venue start off before Hangman comes out to even-cooler looking stuff before Claudio comes out for a first-time banger! They start off strong with uppercuts and forearms on the floor! 

Swinging lariat sends Claudio into the barricade and Excalibur says that JR will call Sting's match tonight! More mid-ring forearms and uppercuts get the crowd hot until a Hangman backslide gets 2. VINTANGE HANGMAN GRABBING A BEER FROM A FAN! Tony - THAT TAKES ME BACK - WHAT A THROWBACK! TO THE EARLY DAYS OF AEW! Taz - Oh I thought you meant to middle school - they didn't have beer then! Tony - Most of the wrestlers' parents weren't born back then! ​​​​​​​OH GOD THESE TWO! 

Nasty press slam over the top to the floor before Hanger gets a RAMP-RUN LARIAT SENDING CLAUDIO INTO THE RING! Buckshot leads to a counter into the pop-up uppercut! MID-RING SLAPFIGHT! Claudio goes for a deadlift into a suplex then wants a tombstone, but HANGER GETS A TOMBSTONE OF HIS OWN! CORNER RUNNING JUPPERCUT LEADS TO A GIANT UPPERCUT SERIES IN THE CORNER BY CLAUDIO! 

Neutralizer attempt but it's countered into a Deadeye for two! Back to back buckshots get the win! Wow what a fantastic match - easily mid-4 star affair there. Mr. Brodie Lee gets a highlight reel and a runthrough of the two multi-person tags in his honor tonight. So beautiful! This kind of match has the ability to really make a star out of Preston Vance. A legend like Copeland coming out for a match like this helps everyone in the match as well.  

These matches paying tribute to Brodie Lee are a nice way to spotlight a guy like Preston Vance, who doesn't get a lot of big chances to shine, but can go between the ropes. A regular Workrate Jones. Leone pounces OC out of the ring. Archer gets a couple of corner lunges before Jose grabs the foot and JAKE ROBERTS PUNCHES HIM! Preston tags in and runs wild on the Gates of Agony! Vince gets a runthrough cutter for 2! ORANGE PUNCH PAIR! BUT A BLACK HOLE SLAM BY ARCHER SENDS HIM DOWN! Miscue between the heels leads to Archer setting up Cage for a spear and PRESTON WINS WITH THE BRODIE DISCUS LARIAT!

BANG BANG GANG buries folks before the Acclaimed and Billy come out and also bury the Undisputed Kingdom. Acclaimed offers them a chance to be a big faction and Colten tells Billy to stand by the fax machine and Taz says he still has one. YAY JOE JOE JOE JOE JOE IS HERE! He just strolls down in a suit looking like a killer with his giant belt on his shoulder. Joe says that you don't have to come out here and whine on the mic or GO ON TWITTER AND MAKE YOUR HOE-ASS COMMENTS - YOU SUBMIT YOUR DEMANDS AND YOU WALK THE AISLE TO HAVE THE CHAMP STOMP YOUR ASS OUT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE WHO'S EVER CHEERED FOR YOU!

AND HERE COMES SWERVE! Swerve hypes up Duval and says it's his first time here but it's already Swerve's House! Swerve says it's not personal and it wasn't with Hangman, but Joe can make it personal when he beats him. AND HERE'S THE HANGMAN! Hangman says he beat Mox, he reunited with the Elite, and he beat Swerve! But he lost sight of that title and he wants it back! He stares Joe down and Joe just stares back. 

THE HOOK SIGNAL HAS BEEN SENT! Two Taz proteges go at it! Hook goes in and calls the champ weak - and their match is next week! Deonna and Mariah are hyped up with a recap of last week. Sammy's out in Buzz Lightyear gear to face Ricky Starks. Starks wins a tackle war and poses. ROSHAMBO ON THE APRON! OH GOD WHAT A NASTY LANDING! STACKING LAST RIDE GETS 2 FOR STARKS! GTH by Sammy countered into a jacknife gets 2 for Starks. Flash cradle ends it with a Sammy win!

Starks and Sammy shake before Bill jumps Sammy and we get a giant brawl with Jericho and Floyd and "Judas" playing! I hope they have "Judas" play throughout the tag  title match - the brawl had a New Jack feel with it. 8-woman tag is up with the HAPPIEST BABYFACE IN HISTORY WILLOW, Kris, Anna Jay, and Rosa. Outcasts are out with Skye Blue and THE CHAMPION OF TBS, JULIA HART! 

Ruby eats offense from EVERYONE ELSE while trying to just sit up. Tremendous! This is a nice, basic house show match formula - play the hits, get them over and get reps in. Perfect match for Julia and Skye and a fantastic showcase for Ruby as the foil. CARTWHEEL OF HAPPINESS THROUGH THE HEELS BY WILLOW! Michinoku driver by Statlander gets 2 on Saraya. OCTUPLE BABYFACE SUPLEX! Julia and Anna go at it! Anna gets the qneen slayer on Skye Blue and wins the Brodie Tribute Match!

Yuta hype video sets up Yuta vs. Kingston for the Continental Crown on Rampage since he's Mr. Rampage. Roddy Strong is out to face Bryan Keith and Taz wishes he had his poncho since he's freezing! Tony puts over how good Keith looked at Final Battle while Ex says the chops from Roddy hurt even more on a cold night like this. Keith gets a Diamond Dust! END OF HEARTACHE ENDS IT but Keith gets over in defeat. 

IT'S STORY TIME WITH ADAM COLE and he says he promised change and delivered it. He says Roddy is one of the best of the past 20 years and says he's got the International Title written all over him while his boys Bennett and Taven are the best tag team and Wardlow finally has people who respect him, he'll be the champion and they'll all hold it. One good thing about this injury for Cole is that he will get better on the mic because there's a difference between what he's done and being THE mouthpiece of a main event-level group.

Deonna will face Red Velvet on Collision. Big dapper yapper intro for the Stinger's final match in Jax! Walk and brawl to start and I love Sting getting these big reactions with Flair for the end. Sting throws Hobbs onto a road case and throws him into some trash cans. STINGER SPLASH TO HOBBS BUT STING EATS THE FLYING KNEE! FLAIR CHOPS HOBBS. CRAZY DIVE FROM DARBY ONTO THE HEELS! BLEACHER COFFIN DROP!

God what a riot this is! Hobbs carries Sting across the stage tron and then Sting smacks him against the wall and deathdrops him off the balcony through a double table setup! What a great visual to get Hobbs over with the carry before falling in defeat to a legend. Tony Schiavone is mid-ring with Sting and wow what a cool moment this is. 

Tony puts Sting over and wants to know who his final opponent will be...AND IT'S THE BUCKS! They want it, Darby wants it and Sting seems down! What a fantastic showcase for Sting's final match and it's a totally fresh match too.
