AEW is back with another show that at least has some last-minute hype thanks to Tyson's return. Mox and the Bucks face Omega and the Good Brothers and Bear Country faces Jurassic Express. We start off with a great shot of the Inner Circle returning in all-black and get Page out as the TOP CONTENDER with JR asking if he can win the big one. Caster says that Page is old news and he's like a breathalyzer and can blow him. Page hits a fallaway and a DICK TOGO SENTON JUST SQUISHES HIM. Page straddles him up on the barricade and walks up another one for a lariat. Bowens distracts Page and Caster pulls him into the post, before Bowens does it again. Big Ron Simmons-esque spinebuster from Page there - I love it!
They talk about how this is a match for Page to retain his top slot - and I like that, it makes the rankings matter just bringing them up more regularly here. Apron battle leads to Caster landing a throat thrust, but Page sends him into the frame. Distraction from Bowens leads to...in theory a run-up superplex, but Bowens can't get up in one go - but he does it well enough on the second attempt to fix for video packages. Boombox distraction winds up giving Caster a chance to chain punch him for 2.9. Mic drop flying elbow misses and the Buckshot is prevented by Bowens, who eats a moonsault, while Caster eats a boot and THEN THE BUCKSHOT ENDS IT. THIS GOT PAGE OVER HUGE.
Page celebrates national beer day by throwing beers out. Death Triangle is out to talk with Tony before Orange and the Best Friends are out with Kris with OC showing clips of PAC tapping OC at Revolution. PAC says that TBF wants a shot at the Bucks - but so to they! Trent says THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN and oh yeah, they got an ALIEN NOW! Tyson chats with someone on the football field before the Inner Circle comes out. Jericho cuts a pandering promo until saying...after the break. Jericho says that the Inner Circle was bad for six months - due to MJF - MY JERKOFF FRIEND. He's smart - not at certain things, like high school chemistry, but he wanted to use MJF. Jericho burying him for a shitty tan is fantastic.
Jericho tells MJF to stop stealing his shit - he did the scarf deal five years ago, and if he wants a clipboard, he's got a spare one. Jericho goes through The Pinnacle and Tully was a third-string Horseman - around Ole and Paul Roma. FTR is a great team, but no one can tell them apart. Jericho says that Spears called him 10 years ago to get advice when he got fired from the fed and now he's rocking a blonde mohawk. Jericho says that Wardlow has a 13 cent body and a million dollar brain - but has to strip naked to count to 21. Jericho announces that Blood and Guts is coming on May 5th!
Dasha chats with Christian, who says that last week was the culmination of his year trying to get back in the ring. Christian looks so old next to Taz. This show should be sponsored by Just For Men. Taz offers him a spot in Team Taz and Christian is given a chance to sleep on it. The Godzilla vs. Kong match leads to clips of the movie blended in with clips of the wrestlers and new narration - this is different and cool. Jungle Boy dives around and Luchasaurus...supervises before joining in. Jack gets caught and Luchasaurus...dives to be caught, but can't because well, no one has arms that large. Luchasaurus is so...clunky now. Nothing he does looks good or crisp - just GIVE HIM TIME TO REST and have Jungle Boy as a single.
BACKPACK ROLLING BOULDER SENTON IN THE CORNER TO SAURUS GETS 2. Boulder gets sent out and Bronson eats a moonsault to end it. This was "bowling shoe ugly" at points like JR said, but got the faces over. "Your mantra should be DO THE WORK. For me!" Tremendous line. He says that Cody didn't amount to shit and he believed in himself. Agogo says he does Subway ads in the UK for business and punches people for pleasure. IT'S STING is out with Tony. Jake looks 7,000 years old and sounds older. Lance says he's tired of the agenda in AEW - he's been taken out by AEW. Archer says HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE THE MAIN EVENT, your time is done.
"Be slow to speak and QUICK TO HEAR!" - great line. Sting says he's main event material, but Jake isn't helping him channel his energy in the right direction. Sting vs. Archer would be a good fit for Double or Nothing. I would do it either there or on a showcase TNT show. Team Taz is backstage and Starks starts things off and Taz says that Starks is stirring shit up. Darby's out to face JD Drake. JD chops him and leaves a handprint. Drake shoulderblocks him down off a dive and then Nemeth gets chased to the back by Sting and his bat.
Darby hits a diving lariat on JD and his goons. Tree of woe cannonball followed by a Vader bomb for 2.5! MASSIVE slaps up top AVALANCHE CODE RED BY DARBY. COFFIN DROP ENDS IT. This was a ton of fun. JD should've earned himself a deal with this match. Hardy Inc wants Darby tossed through the announce table and then the Dark Order empties to save him. Bunny and Conti brawl! Marvez hypes up Blood and Guts before the Pinnacle jumps Jericho. SPIKE PILEDRIVER TO JERICHO! Inner Circle locker room door is shut and nailed - and they bust through it.
Conti is out with -1 and they do a handshake and hug. AKI-STYLE CAPTURE SUPLEX BY Conti! Bunny sweeps her on the apron and hits a suplex and then a SHOTGUN DROPKICK ON THE BARRICADE! Pump knee misses for Conti and then a gut superkick gets 2 for Bunny. Hardy distraction backfires and a TAY-KO gets 2. Superplex hits after some goofiness from the goons and then the hammerlock DD-Tay ends it. DARBY VS. HARDY IN A FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE MATCH FOR THE TITLE NEXT WEEK. Bucks face Pac and Fenix for the belts, and Ogogo debuts next week. Velvet vs. Jade is on tap too. Really fun match.
Trios tag main event is up and the Bucks have little '91 Rockers-esque touches in their gear tonight. I love it. Shockingly, Omega works great with either Buck and Doc is a good brawling big man. He works really well with Mox, including some basement headbutts to Mox's kidneys. SLOPPYHAYMAKERS IN THE CORNER to Mox. Nick tags in and hits a pair of gamenguiris to the chest of Doc. OUTSIDE-IN X-FACTOR meets a SPINEBUSTER BY ANDERSON. Fantastic stuff there. Matt holds back on a superkick, so Kenny slaps him several times and MATT PUNCHES HIM much to Don's dismay. SNAPDRAGON HITS! MOX HITS OMEGA AND MATT HITS A PILEDRIVER FOR 2. More Bang for your Buck hits, buts Karl saves!
BTE Trigger, but Matt doesn't want to go through with it. Mox has had enough of this nice shit AND MOX TAGS IN! DEATH RIDER ON OMEGA! ANOTHER ONE! RNC IS ON! He wants a third Death Rider, but MATT SUPERKICKS HIM FOR HURTING HIS FRIEND. MAGIC KILLER TO EDDIE! Magic Killer to Mox and Omega gets the win. Technically. This was a ton of fun.
