WCW SuperBrawl III

The show opens up with Sting getting whipped by Vader and Barry, so it just feels like Saturday Night before WE SEE VADER HANGING STING. Okay then, that's different. Eric hypes up the white castle of fear and Eric talks to Missy and Maxx Payne gets a US Title shot as Ron Simmons' stand-in tonight against Dustin. Missy says she's going to get the interview and then Johnny B. Badd is out to his fantastic theme. Johnny is out doing his early '90s gay voice running down the main events. 

Maxx Payne plays the national anthem and does a fine job of whammy-barring that motherfucker. Blondes face Bagwell and Watts, with the Blondes in matching gear - but pre-vests with wacky jacket and robes. Jesse calls Bagwell a glorified rookie and he flips over Austin on a standing top wrist lock. Bagwell's gear looks great and Watts comes in to boos whenever he attempts offense. Brian runs him over to cheers. "Why are they booing every time Watts comes in?  "ARE YOU SURE IT'S BOO OR IS IT WOO!?" OH MY GOD, he's literally using Mr. Burns' logic!

 

Watts wearing Dr. Death hitched-up gear makes him look SO MUCH OLDER than he should be. He projects being both a rookie who knows nothing and looks like he's 55 working the seniors tour with this gear. YELLOWJACKET SUPLEX, but an Austin elbow ends it. Love it. More people need to just use positioning of a guy's finish against them. Tremendous! Wacky  Sting-Vader video. Eric and Johnny chat about Flair and Missy talks about checking in with the limo driver. Missy gets frisked and escorted out before FLAIR EXITS.

MASSIVE we want Flair chant. Benoit-Scorpio is up and Scorp does Ricochet's 630 flip off the top to the mat. God, Scorpio reminds me so much in this era of Ricochet a few years ago. It's unreal how ahead of his time he was on a national level. Scorp outwrestles him on the mat with arm work. Monkey flip bridge exchanges lead to Scorp FLIPPING OUT OF A MONKEY FLIP and dropkicking him. Dude is so ahead of his time here. Crab attempt by Benoit, but Scorp flips through. Scorp superkicks him down and armbars him. 

Jesse calls this an action-packed chess match and really puts them over great with that comparison. They're getting so over here just off having a fantastic match. LIONTAMER TO SCORPIO! Sleeper on the mat by Benoit and he super belly to back suplexes Scorp. Scorp gets a sunset, but he's in the ropes. Enzuiguri by Scorp and a big flying lariat. 360 STINGER SPLASH BY SCORP AND A SNAP SLAM BY BENOIT AND A SECOND ROPE LEGDROP GETS 2. Scorp gets a cradle and gets the win at 19:59! Love it - no bullshit draw, he just won by being better.

Bischoff shills the hotline - YOU COULD PAY TO TALK TO MICHAEL HAYES! Okay, so I know it's WCW and all, but WHY IS DUSTIN LOUDER THAN THE ANNOUNCER?! I demand a skit from the past where we we meet MAXX PAYNE'S TEAM OF LAWYERS, because they must be amazing. He says Norma Jean took out Ron Simmons, and tonight, he'll take the US Title and they'll make his life hell and he whammy bars more. Wild Bill Irwin is out and cracks the whip to face Davey as THE BRITISH BULLDOG before the WWF ended that. 

Davey shoves him around before pressing him and he takes a wacky Terry Funk-ish bump off the ropes. BILL IRWIN GETS OFFENSE IN for some ungodly reason. Running powerslam ends it and WOW did they book Davey horribly here. Davey should've just steamrolled him. White Castle of Fear spooky mask shot. Davey chats with Tony and he's just gassed. He cuts a horrible promo before it's time for CACTUS VS. ORNDORFF! Brawling. Slam on the floor for Paul before a SUNSET FLIP OFF THE SECOND ROPE TO THE FLOOR! THIS GETS 2! SUPLEX ON THE RAILING BY PAUL gets 2. 

Paul takes the brace off and HE GETS A FIGURE FOUR. Paul kneebreakers him on the floor after Mick takes a skin the cat bump off a lariat to the floor. CHAIRSHOTS TO CACTUS and now a shot to the throat. Paul motions for the piledriver and does the Hogan taunt, but Jack shovels him to the face and wins it. This was completely insane and it's held up nicely. MICK WAS INSANE! More with Missy and Eric. THE HEAVENLY BODIES ARE OUT WITH CORNETTE! The Bodies' are a perfect example of how you do a "modern day" version of a team that succeeds another - because you have a seamless transition from the last-era Midnights and throw in Tom Prichard to give him equal footing with the guys you know are top-notch.

It's basically the last big Midnights vs. Rock 'n Rolls match. Or not, as it's Tom and Stan and Eaton's just out as support. Well BOO-URNS TO THAT and Stan doesn't get to intro Corny either. RICKY ARGUES WITH CORNY and that doesn't go well. Somehow, Stan runs around and runs into Cornette somehow. Ricky takes an ass-hopping and a Liger bomb to a huge "ROCK AND ROLL!" chant. Ricky Morton as a babyface in peril has literally worked for almost 40 years as a sure-fire part of a match formula. ROBERT'S IN AND RUNS WILD. Double-team backdrop to Ricky, but A SECOND ATTEMPT BACKFIRES FOR A DOUBLE LARIAT! Inverted atomic by Ricky and Eaton RUNS IN AND ACCIDENTALLY HITS STAN! GIBSON COVERS AND WINS. This was fun. Basic high school house show match, but still fun.

White Castle hype before Maxx Payne comes out to rock that wouldn't be out of place now. Payne is in some super-shit gear here. Dustin gets a flying armdrag and lots of arm holds. They plod around FOR EVER and Dustin gets an abdominal stretch and then Payne pulls the ref and that's a DQ. Then they brawl. THIS ABSOLUTELY SUCKED. What a way to make Ric's return even greater. 

Flair's out and he is OVER. Flair comes out and gets a great reaction and Randy puts over the "NWA rules" that makes them come off as so lame. Windham eats a spinkick and MORE HEADLOCKS! Back suplex lift from Barry into, yes, ANOTHER SIDE HEADLOCK! ANOTHER. FUCKING. HEADLOCK! MUTA SUPLEX AND A POWER DRIVE ELBOW! BUT WAIT. THERE'S MORE HEADLOCKS! Back suplex on the floor by Barry. Barry gets a sleeper. AND HE GOES DOWN WITH IT TO REST MORE. Barry uses the ropes for leverage. Barry gets 2 off a gutwrench. Barry's right hook is the best thing about this match so far. TREMENDOUS slug. 

 

"A REVERSE CHINLOCK IS APPLIED!" according to Tony and my mind is just blown. Piledriver attempt is countered by Muta. DIVING CHOP BY MUTA into the handspring elbow! MOONSAULT but Barry moves! ANOTHER ONE MEETS THE KNEES! APRON LARIAT! Jumping DDT hits and Barry wins it! Flair belts Barry. I love that if you're a long-time fan here, you have A STORY with the horsemen history in all this. 

Vader comes out in an AMAZING cape and Sting is over as fuck. Jesus. Tony talks about Sting and Vader going at it a year ago, in July Vader wins the title, Sting beats Vader for the king of cable, and now they have come to THIS POINT. Vader is just so amazing in this run. Vader poses and Jesse says he's not exactly Mr. Olympia - but he's 200 pounds heavier. Vader just slaps the shit out of Sting's back and neck with the strap.

Gotta give it to Sting because for a guy who got into wrestling not as a fan, THIS DUDE WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO TAKE A SHIT-KICKING. Whether it's Vader here or taking fucking tacks to the back or a BAT TO THE FACE in TNA. Sting gets his comeback, but goes up and dives down. GORGEOU splash off the top - and no one did it quite like Sting. Sting takes the straps down on Vader and straps him! HE STRAPS HARLEY! Backdrop counter to a powerbomb attempt and Sting's flying splash misses. Vader's back is all sliced up.

HAMMER FISTS BY VADER! VADER BOMB! SUPER SAMOAN DROP BY VADER! Sting avoids another Vader bomb! Vader goes up for a splash, but Sting crotches him. Vader gets 3 ropes, but Sting hangs on and breaks the count. VERTICAL BODY SPLASH BY VADER! KOPPOU KICK BY STING. GERMAN RELEASE BY STING! 

Sting fireman carry's him for a bit, but Harley trips him up and Vader bottom-rope banzais him. Vader gets three and STING KICKS HIM OFF INTO THE FOURTH BUCKLE. Vader wins "the SuperBrawl III main event" - which is unsanctioned. Barry talks about Muta's name getting taken off his belt and he wants all the belts. 

AEW Dynamite 2/24/21

 

Mox starts off against Ryan Nemeth. Tony hypes up Dark Elevation, premiering on Youtube and Ryan now looks even more like Dolph. Mox slaps the shit out of him and crossfaces him. Saito suplex by Mox! Ryan lands a couple of forearms and a dropkick but gets locked in a neck crank and then the paradigm shift ends it. I love the front choke into the Paradigm Shift - great shoot-style transition. 

Mox sits in a chair and says he'll do whatever he can to get that title - and now with the barb wire death match, he'll be able to prove it. He asks for the mental images that come to your mind when you think of the match - how do they make you feel? He's addicted to THIS and he's ungodly great here. He's just sucking you into the world and says if it all ends at Revolution, it's a hell of a way to go.

We get an 18 month-long hype video covering their whole history in AEW - and it's an epic. Alex chats with Fenix and Lance, who says that he carries their team and Fenix wants to take him out and prove he's better than his brother. They brawl and Hager vs. Cutler and Nyla vs. Britt are hyped up. Sting's brawl is recapped and I like this - it makes each show seem like an important deal. Starks and Cage face the Varsity Blondes next.

Papa Buck stuff recapped before they take a photo with Papa Buck near the truck with their faces on the back. Brian lands a nice sliding dropkick to the floor on Starks and hops on the rail before getting 2 on a la majistral. POST BOMB TO PILLMAN BY CAGE! Pillman dives onto Starks for 2 before Cage saves. DROPKICK/POWERBOMB TO STARKS GETS 2! STARKS SPEAR AND THE DISCUS SPEAR HITS! Drillclaw to Pillman ends it. This was a ton of fun and terrifying at the same time. 

We get a kickass video of Sting or someone in his gear pulling Darby out of a bodybag. Sting PULLS HOOK OUT OF THE BODYBAG AND DARBY'S IN THE RAFTERS AND ZIPLINES IN WITH THE SKATEBOARD! STINGER SPLASH AND THE SCORPION DEATHDROP RETURN TO TNT! THIS RULES!

Miro says he'll take out Orange Cassidy and blames he and Charles for ruining the marriage of Penelope and Kip before Miro praises Charles for cleaning his stuff. They get a note from Charles about wanting a match at Revolution. Cutler is out and needs Ricky Steamboat as his manager for the Dragon and Dungeons and Dragons-master. Hager's out driving an invisible car and throws Cutler around with a wheelbarrow German, then a deadlift variant. Hager bomb, but Cutler avoids a corner charge and gets a gamenguri. SUICIDE DIVE AND THEN FLIP DIVE BY CUTLER! Lariat ends it and the IC attacks him. BUCKS MAKE THE SAVE! 

Matt says he wants Jericho and MJF out now. They appear at the truck with Jericho in an all-time bad outfit EVEN FOR HIM before we see Papa Buck beaten up and then tossed into the back of the truck head-first. I love all of these recaps - it makes sure that major events ACTUALLY FEEL IMPORTANT and if you missed anything, you can catch up quickly. Next week's Dynamite is "The Crossroads" and Cody/Velvet vs. Shaq/Jade is hyped.

Kassidy vs. Page starts with Page going for a yakuza kick to Matt, but Kassidy attacks. MONSTER lariat by Hangman out of the corner. FALLAWAY SLAM! Aubrey ejects Matt, who gets a DELETE chant. Suicide dive by Page is met with an uppercut from Kassidy. Page is sent to the apron and eats a forearm, but Kassidy misses a rope charge. Hangman's right arm is hurt and he can't get a pin with it. Tornado kick by Kassidy hits.

DVD BY PAGE! SLIDING LARIAT MISSES Kassidy goes for a suplex, but Page gets a sheer-drop brainbuster for 2! JR talks about Karl Kox teaching the brainbuster to Dick Murdoch and now here it is today. Kassidy gets a cross armbar, but Hangman gets the rope. Kassidy hangmans the arm on the rope and shoves Silver. Deadeye ends it for Page!

Matt says that he wanted to give Page the world, but NOW HE'LL HURT HIM AND THE DARK ORDER! Matt shoves V off the stage through a table. Omega is busy CONTRUCTING THE MOXLEY EXTERMINATION CHAMBER! Callis threatening Marvez with pliers is fantastic. AEW women's title eliminator tourney is recapped in full quickly. They hype up the free Sunday BR Live special, which is somewhat loaded.

Long struggling headlock by Britt. Britt is sent out and throws a bitch-fit and throws shit around. Britt grounds her and elbows the shoulder. Not queen of strong style forearms on the mat there by Britt. Nyla hits a uranage on Reba ON THE APRON! Britt gets the glove, but gets chokeslammed and Reba gets tossed in the corner. CANNONBALL TO REBA! Russian legsweep into Lockjaw on a floatover! BUT NYLA SWINGS HER OVER FOR 2! POSSUM PIN BY BRITT GETS 2! Superkick party by BRITT! Crucifix bomb gets 2 and LOCKJAW IS ATTEMPTED AGAIN, but avoided with elbows! Right hook and a Beast Bomb hits-ish for 2.9! Tombstone is avoided and met with a superkick that is countered into ANOTHER BEAST BOMB TO WIN IT. This was quite good - not great tho.

Tully and FTR vs. Jurassic Express hype. Tully has been retired longer than Marko Stunt has been alive. Dax puts over that Tully came out of retirement for 30 years to take them out. Jericho and MJF will have a press conference on Dynamite next week. We'll hear from Paul Wight next week. Dark Order face TH2, Matt, and Private Party. 10 and Max Caster vie for a slot in the ladder match and Shida finds out her foe. Casino tag team royale is coming to Revolution.

Archer's out and Fenix goes for the reverse 619 and goes for a hook kick, but he's too far away and gets swatted. Fenix hits a rana off the top and then Jake shoves him off the top to the ramp. Fenix jumps over Jake to dive onto Lance, who then just chops the shit out of him on the barricade. Fenix gets bloodied and chops away with Lance kinda selling them.

BACKFLIP SELL FOR A LARIAT BY LANCE! CANNON BALL ON THE BARRICADE BY LANCE! Springboard double stomp to the back of Fenix! Ropewalk moonsault for 2! Corner charge eats a boot from Fenix, then a step-up gamenguiri! TIGHTROPE WALK PK! Rolling cutter by Fenix gets 2!

Lance hits a fisherman buster for 2. SPANISH FLY BY FENIX OFF THE TOP GETS 2! Fenix avoids a mask rip and lands a hook kick BUT EATS A POUNCE! BUCKLE BOMB INTO A CHOKESLAM GETS 2.9! They talk about TV time, but the Blackout ends it - so this was great and Fenix now isn't in the match that his brother is in. Archer gives him a fist bump. Great night of action!

WWE Elimination Chamber 2021

 JIP due to work and the show having a 7PM start time. KO and Zayn fight up top for a superplex with Sami biting him. Sami misses a dive and eats a superkick. CANNONBALL RUSH TO BRYAN, CESARO, AND ZAYN! HALF AND HALF BY SAMI TO KO! EVERYONE'S OUT DUE TO FINISHRS AND KO'S TIRED! KO and Jey have a Frye-Takayama exchange. I think KO is the lone subscriber to Fight Pass and all he watches is Frye-Takayama on a loop. KO WITH A MOONSAULT OFF THE POD ON THE PILE! STUNNER-MANIA! Sami's out!

Jey shuts the door on KO's arm and he eats superkicks. Jey superfly dives onto him to take him out. SWING INTO THE CHAMBER! Cesaro hoists Bryan up and tosses him into the ring from the chamber floor. Round kick to the stomach to a diving Cesaro! The Thunderdome setup with the chamber looks fantastic. Bryan avoids a Very European Uppercut with a backslide for 2. ARM TRAP HEAD STOMPS BY BRYAN! HALF CRAB SWING TO THE BAD KNEE OF BRYAN! JEY SUPERKICK TO CESARO! CESARO OUT! 

Splash to Bryan, but HE KICKS OUT! Jey goes up to the top of the pod but the knees are up! Knee plus hits and BRYAN GETS THE WIN! Bryan faces Roman Reigns tonight, and that should be  fantastic. THE BIG DOG and his giant goofy graphic are out to face Bryan now. ROMAN WALKS INTO THE YES LOCK! Roman unloads with forearms and elbows! RAMPAGE BOMB BY ROMAN! Roman gets the guiollitone and gets the submission when Bryan taps out. This was just about perfect storytelling - Roman was fantastic here and everyone in the Chamber at the end had their stock raised.

EDGE SPEARS AND POINTS TO THE SIGN! Credit card ad. Sasha on Austin ad. Cole botches his stuff with Bad Bunny. Sonya chats with him and Miz is all goofy with his outfit. Miz and Bunny argue and I guess we're getting Priest vs. Miz tonight. Joey. Riddle's out in Evel Knielvel gear to face Morrison and Lashley, with Morrison winning a fatal 4 way earlier to get the shot. Lashley sends Riddle over the top with a lariat, but Morrison lands a flying Chuck to stun him.

Riddle and Morrison get tossed around on the floor. Riddle and Morrison boot Lashley Giant one-arm spinebuster to Morrison before a Yokosuka cutter to Riddle. Riddle ranas him to the floor and Morrison dives onto Lashley on the floor. Floating Bro to the pile. Pele from Riddle to Morrison before a PK/Senton combo. Flash knee to Lashley and a floating bro to Lashley gets 2 due to Morrison. Starship Pain to Lashley, but he kicks out! Morrison gets the crutch from MVP and Lashley locks it on to Morrison, leading to crutch shots by Riddle and a Bro Derek to Morrison - SO RIDDLE WINS IT BY BEATING THE GUY WHO WASN'T CHAMP.

They hype up Peacock housing WM this year in the US. Nia and Shayna are out and then Sasha and Bianca are all awkward before Reginald hits on Sasha with champagne. We get some ass-related mockery from Bianca towards Nia. Frog splash gets 2 for Sasha on Shayna. KOD to Shayna, but Nia pulls her out. Nia gets a spinebuster for 2 on Bianca. Samoan drop, but Sasha tagged in blind and hits a meteora for 2. Crossface on Nia with Reginald out and Sasha is distracted by his champagne bottle and Nia wins with a Samoan drop. Well all of this sucked. 

WWE Title chamber is up. Orton vs. Hardy start in this. Jesus. Orton chinlock, eats a splash, Drew's in and tosses Jeff around. Drwe lawndarts Jeff into a pod. Orton's out and RKOs everyone. Omos tears the pod door off and AJ comes in and gets 2 on Kofi. Pearce tells Omos he's gone and he leaves. Drew gordbusters Kofi off the chamber and then to the floor. MONSTER backdrop to AJ from Drew. GIANT Sheamus hand on the pod.

Delayed neckbreaker to Jeff from Drew gets 2. Sheamus comes in for clubberin! Tower of doom to Sheamus. Kofi trust fall off the pod to the pile! BROGUE TO KOFI! He's out! Chain of Twistos! Whisper in the Wind to a pile off the pod! Swanton to AJ, but a claymore hits him and he's out! Headbutt to Sheamus, but the white noise hits. SPRINGBOARD 450 GETS 2 FOR AJ! Sheamus tosses AJ around and a battering ram hits. FUTURE SHOCK TO SHEAMUS! Claymore, but a Brogue to Drew! P1 FOREARM HITS SHEAMUS AND HE TAKES HIM OUT. Great cock-blocking by AJ! FOREARM, BUT DREW CLAYMORES HIM IN MID-AIR AND WINS IT! This was great and WWE's best PPV in a long time. 

Lashley spears Drew to probably set up Fastlane. Big shots and the a snap flatliner and the Hurt Lock. MIZ HAS THE CASE. HE'S CASHING IN! SNAP DDT HITS FOR 2. FINALE HITS AND MIZ WINS IT! He makes great goofy faces and celebrates while Drew is in agony. Hey, they gave a heel credibility and elevated someone! Sure, it's Miz - BUT IT'S SOMEONE.
