AEW Dynamite 7-14-21 - Fyter Fest 2021 Night 1

We've got Christian vs. Matt Hardy as a legends match of sorts and Darby vs. Ethan Page in a coffin match as the featured match for the modern era. The IWGP US Title match with Mox and Karl Anderson starts off. WILD THING RULES! Mox is out and just unbelievably happy to be in the crowds again. Eddie brawls with Doc on the floor to keep it even and a chop exchange in the corner leads to short shots mid-ring with the forearms. God, it is 2014 again! Mox wants a suplex on the ramp, but Anderson hits one of his own.

ROCKET KICK SENDS MOX OFF THE APRON! They hit each other with stereo lariats TWICE before a sleeper, but Karl avoids the Gotch driver. Mox avoids the super gun stun, but lands the Rainmaker and then the elevated paradigm shift to win it and beat the record for IWGP US Title defenses! Backstage, LANCE ARCHER WANTS HIS BELT BACK! Next week - TEXAS DEATH MATCH. WOO DOGGY! And now we've got Brian Cage vs. Starks for the FTW Title.

Cage works him over for a bit before Starks works the arm on the post before the break. Crucifix bomb hits for 2.5! Corner uppercuts and gamenguri hit and a pumphandle flatliner hits hard for 2.5 when Ricky gets his foot on the rope. Rope run-up DDT is countered by Cage into a superkick for 2. Ricky avoids the powerplex and gets a running sitout last ride for 2.5! Starks wants the belt again, but Hobbs pulls it back and the F5 hits for 2.5! Hook distracts the ref and Hobbs belt shots him before STARKS SPEARS HIM FOR THE FTW TITLE WIN! 

Recap of Black's attack on Cody and Arn and Cody comes out in a white and gold suit and he talks about how you shouldn't kick a 62 year old man in the face! He wants a mic! Malakai says that he saw a horse die and that's what happened - he looked Cody and Arn in the eyes and saw the same look that the horse had. It wasn't there and he'll be down to see him soon. Cody's in all-white and Black's in well all black and it's perfect!

PnP beat up Tully after he talks shit - but they leave him standing and just send a message. Hangman is out and he's FEELING WEIRD according to the graphic.  He admits to failing before and letting that tear him up - but the Dark Order lifted him up before THE ELITE COME OUT IN INSANE CLOTHES. The Elite want a brawl and Page wants a match with Omega TONIGHT. Omega wants a 5-on-5 elimination match and Hangman wants a tag title shot for his boys if they win. Goddamn, AEW is about to do Survivor Series better than WWE - and on TV to boot.  Omega wants something and if the faces lose, they lose not only their tag title shot - but Hangman can't get his World title shot. 

Jericho is backstage with Marvez and he accepts the labors of MJF - but then gets beaten up by Spears and MJF says the labor is to beat Spears, who can use a chair while he can't and then they chairshot the bad elbow. Good stuff. Hardy has had 17 matches in 2021 - which is unreal since he seemed so at the end of his career in WWE and he's just rejuvenated in AEW. They go to the floor with a tieup before Christian gets a big dive to the floor. Falling reverse DDT by Christian gets 2. CORNER BABYFACE 10 COUNT PUNCHES never get old. FALLING DDT BY MATT ONTO THE STEPS! Tremendous! Matt does a billion buckle shots in the corner during the break.

Matt avoids a killswitch and Christian avoids a twist and tosses him. A Christian spear hits for 2.5! FROG SPLASH GETS 2! I can't see Christian do that frog splash anymore without think of the Taz-a-strator burying his poor form. SUPERPLEX OFF THE TOP BY MATT! Killswitch, but Matt grabs the ref and nutshots Chrsitian. TWISTO GETS 2! Hardy gets the LEECH/Icepick and wants a countout win because for HFO, a win's a win for the pay window. He gets in at 7 and counters...nothing into a Killswitch. CHRISTIAN BEATS MATT FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER in a singles match. HFO comes out but Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy are here! 

An amazing Miro video airs and he tells a story about a man with a hot wife who could do the splits and while the man was hot too, he was lost. Then a voice told him to forgive all who wronged him - so he kicked all of their asses and became the redeemer. The AEW TNT Title is now on white leather - so we're on four unique designs for this title in a year and they all work. Britt comes out and says that Nyla needs her and this belt to be relevant, while Vickie needs her last name - while she's still DOCTOR BRITT BAKER DMD. Mox accepts the challenge and says Archer's Texas born and next week, he'll be Texas dead. 

Yuta's out to a massive ovation given that he's never been on AEW TV before. We see him beat Nemeth and he's hyped a trainee of Cassidy and Taylor before he faces Sammy Guevara. Sammy runs through him and gets a double jump off a moonsault for a standing SSP and then goes for for an SSP, but Yuta avoids it with knees. GTH ends it! Penelope Ford is out to face Yuka Sakazaki, who has AN AMAZING ENTRANCE. My God, it's just so fun! Penelope goes outside and eats a double-jump cannonball!

Long delayed suplex by Yuka! Rolling gamenguri into a sliding D for 2! Corner jumping knee and a diving back elbow off the top by Yuka for 2. Yuka hits a crazy facebuster dealy and wants a Magical Girl splash and that's it. THIS MATCH WAS SUPER-FUN! Blade faces Orange Cassidy next week and the Texas Death Match is official! AEW Rampage video amps the show up as a showcase for the younger talent and also Sting.

Coffin match time and we get shades of the Lucha Underground casket match presentation with a big presentation of the casket itself. Darby's out and bodychecks him in the corner before taking his shirt off to reveal a steel plate on his back! Sky gets out of the coffin to attack Darby! IT'S STINNG and we get a walk and brawl from he and Sky. DURING THE BREAK, Page catches Darby off a bleacher dive and slammed into the wall. 

Darby's chain on his neck is used against him as Ethan uses the hook on the buckle to yank him down. PAGE GETS FISHHOOKED WITH THE BUCKLE HOOK and then eats a casket shot and they brawl inside it. Page wants an AA off the steps, but he gets countered, stunnered and falls - but Page avoids a coffin drop attempt. EGO'S EDGE OFF THE TOP TO THE STEPS!  Jesus! Darby is nuts and SKATEBOARD TO THE BACK AND THE WIN!
